The Lyon public transportation organization (TCL) is the customer. Its public web site (www.tcl.fr) is one of the most visited web site in Lyon, France (over 50,000 visits per day). It represents the Lyon public transportation network. This information is also available through an app and a mobile web site. Arx iT developed the mapping module available at http://plan-interactif.tcl.fr/. It provides an interactive map and a route calculator / planning platform. It was first developed with Google Maps, but our customer wanted a technology that was more professional, more ergonomic, easier to manage and maintain, and more integrated with their own Information System. Because the web site is subject to high traffic peaks (in the morning and in the evening in particular), we immediately considered using a Cloud solution. Moreover, it was obvious that we had to recommend a platform solution in order to integrate it as well as possible with their Information System. This is why we migrated the solution from Google Maps to a full ArcGIS Online solution with a Javascript/HTML5 thin client.
